The Lady Warriors began the afternoon with their second straight win over the top-ranked Bishops. Wando’s boys team then followed with a last-second win in overtime.

Blackstock leads the way

Skylar Blackstock scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Wando girls in a 49-42 road win at Bishop England.

Blackstock scored 12 points in a physical first half that saw 16 fouls called in the first quarter alone. Mattie Willis hit three 3-pointers while Caroline Funk scored eight of her nine points before halftime.

Bishop England trailed the entire game. Katie Brooks pulled the Bishops within a point, 22-21, with just under three minutes left in the second quarter. Willis answered seconds later with a three from the wing that sparked an 8-1 run and sent the Warriors into halftime ahead 30-22.

Wando limited Bishop England to just four points through the opening six minutes of the second half while it stretched a lead as large as 16 points. Warriors forward Ericka Wiseley scored all eight of her points in the third quarter. Wiseley shot 4-of-5 on the night and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Wando managed just one basket in the fourth quarter. Bishop England, though, connected on only two. Josie Dennis scored six of her 10 points in the final quarter. Brooks finished with a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Bishop England surrendered 28 turnovers against the Warriors’ pressure — 10 more than it’d given away in any game this season. Blackstock and Rena Maraccini both tallied four steals for the Warriors.

Wando entered this week 4-0 with a rematch against Porter-Gaud on Tuesday and a region opener against Summerville on Friday. Bishop England opened this week 3-2, looking to snap its two-game slide with a home game against West Ashley on Tuesday and trip to First Baptist on Friday.

Freeling sinks game-winner in OT

Tristan Freeling hit a stepback jumper with 1.6 seconds left in overtime to push Wando past Bishop England, 59-57.

It was just the third made field goal of the game for Freeling who scored all of his six points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

The game was tied at the end of the first quarter and at halftime. Bishop England opened a slim 36-33 lead by the end of the third quarter. Wando hit four 3-pointers in the fourth, including two from Sam Tunney who finished 3-of-3 shooting on the night after entering the game 2-of-17 on the season.

Leo Albano powered the Bishops with eight of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter. Albano pulled down six rebounds and handed out six assists on the night. Cole Christy scored 11 points with eight rebounds. Aidan McCool added 13 points and Louis Griffith scored eight with 10 boards.
