Caston, Phillip

Phillip Caston is in his 13th year of teaching and his 6th at Wando High School. He advises the award-winning Legend yearbook as well as teaching Intro to Journalism and Creative Writing I. Caston has a bachelor's degree in English from Clemson University and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. He currently serves as chairman of the Southern Interscholastic Press Association executive board as well as coastal representative of the S.C. Scholastic Press Association executive board. He is originally from Spartanburg, SC, and previously worked as a reporter for various news organizations.

Intro to Journalism

Students learn all facets of journalism in the fields of reporting, bias, interviewing, editorial writing, media history, ethics, and law. The class serves as a feeder into the yearbook, newspaper, and broadcast programs.

Creative Writing I

Creative Writing I introduces students to the styles, techniques, and qualities of writing poetry, fiction, narrative non-fiction, and other creative written works. The class serves as a feeder program to Wando's award-winning literary magazine, The Outlet
