Finding ways to help pay for college can be challenging if you do not know where to look. On this page, you will find up-to-date resources, scholarships, deadline information as well as how to apply. We are always updating scholarship information, so check back often.

College Specific Scholarships

(Check the college’s website you have applied to for scholarship opportunities.)

 

Davidson University’s John M Belk Scholarship:

Criteria: Awarded to students who demonstrate intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership ability. Belk Scholars represent the finest attributes of the Davidson student body: intellectual excellence and curiosity, integrity, global awareness, and leadership ability and potential.

Wando can nominate one or two qualified seniors to apply for the Belk Scholarship.

Award Amount: Full Tuition plus stipend

Deadline: Deadline to submit your nomination packet to Wando’s School Counseling Office is October 31st, 2017. Student who wish to be considered for nomination should complete the “Wando Belk Scholarship Nomination Questionnaire”.  2017-18 Davidson University Belk Scholarship Nomination Questionnaire. Students who are nominated will need to complete their Davidson Admissions Application by December 1st.

University of Virginia’s Jefferson Scholarship:

Criteria: Student who has demonstrated uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents, and an understanding of the broader community around them.

Award Amount: Full Tuition

Deadline: Wando can nominate one student to apply for the Jefferson Scholarship. Students who wish to be considered should complete the “Wando Jefferson Scholarship Nomination Packet” and submit the packet to the Wando School Counseling office by October 31st, 2017. Please go to the following link for a copy of  the nomination packet, 2017-18 Jefferson Nomination Packet. The selected Wando student will need to complete their portions of the nomination application for the University of Virginia by December 1st. Robertson Scholars Leadership Program at Duke & UNC-Chapel Hill:

The Robertson Scholarship Program seeks exceptional leaders who plan to attend either Duke or UNC-CH. Students who display outstanding potential and a desire to affect positive change in the world should consider applying.

Criteria: Students must complete The Robertson Scholarship Application, as well as apply separately to Duke and/or UNC-CH for admissions.

Award Amount: Full Tuition, room and board

Deadline: November 15th, 2017

University of NC at Chapel Hill’s Thomas Wolfe Scholarship:

Criteria: Students may choose to major in any discipline, but the Wolfe Scholar must agree to minor in Creative Writing.The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship award, the first of its kind at UNC-Chapel Hill, will be based largely on written work submitted by candidates. Artistic merit is the chief criterion of selection. Students who write poetry, fiction, plays, literary non-fiction (personal narratives, memoir, travel and nature essays, literary journalism, belles-lettres) are eligible. Multiple genre submissions are also encouraged. Submissions are limited to one application per student.

Deadline: Two Deadlines apply: Student must apply for admissions of UNC by October 15th and submit the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship Application by November 15th.

Award Amount: “full undergraduate support”

UT Dallas: The Eugene McDermott Scholarship

Criteria: McDermott Scholars receive one of the most selective and generous undergraduate merit awards in the nation; it includes a full scholarship and stipend package with access to UT Dallas’ rigorous education, leadership training, cultural enrichment, and personalized opportunities designed to equip them with the skills, experience, and confidence to succeed as leaders.

Award Amount: Full tuition plus a stipend package

  • Deadline:

    • Thursday, November 2, 2017 - Early Application Deadline for student application and three recommendations - for early consideration and notification of continued status

    • Wednesday, January 3, 2018 - Regular Application Deadline for student application and three recommendations.

Minority or Underrepresented College Bound Student Scholarships

ACT Student Champion Award

Criteria: ACT recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge. Student who have overcome challenges, who have a composite ACT of 22 or a 3.0 or higher on the unweighted 4.0 scale. Preference will be given to underrepresented and/or first generation college students.

Award Amount: $500

Deadline: December 31, 2017

Scholarship for Specific Majors/Careers

 

SC Teaching Fellows Scholarship:

SC offers scholarship money to students who wish to pursue a degree in Education. Students must attend one of 11 Teaching Fellows Institutions, which are Anderson, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Columbia College, Francis Marion, Lander, USC Aiken, USC Columbia, USC Upstate or Winthrop.

Deadline: December 1st, 2017

Award Amount: up to $24, ooo for four years

South Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals “Marian Garrett Student Scholarship Application”

Scholarship is available for student who want to pursue a degree in Business. Student must write an essay on “Why I Chose a Career in Business”. Judging criteria: 50% is need for assistance, 25 % scholastic achievement (see application for remaining criteria)

Award Amount: $1500

Deadline: December 1st

Charleston Home Builders Association (CHBA) Skilled Workforce Development Scholarship (see Ms. Johnston in H-129 for more information or email Kathryn_Johnston@charleston.k12.sc.us)

CHBA wants to support student interested in continuing their education in the Construction Trade field. The scholarship is eligible to students in grades 10-12. There are two phases to the scholarship.Phase 1, Due Oct. 6th, Phase 2, Due December 8th, Phase 3, May 18th (as well as Summer Camp June 11-15 or June 18-22.

The Harry Hampton and Wallace F. Pace Scholarship

Harry Hampton Scholarship AND Wallace F Pace is for students wishing to further their education in wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science. (Agriculture, general biology, pre-med, and veterinary science are NOT eligible).

  • Harry Hampton is a $5,000/yr renewable scholarship for 4 years.

  • Wallace F. Pace is a one year $2,500 scholarship

One application can be used to apply for both scholarship but students are only eligible to be awarded only one.

David M. Cline Scholarship

Available to student who wish to pursue a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or forensic science.

Award Amount: one year $2000 scholarship

James O. Thomason Scholarship

Available to students who wish to pursue a degree in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations, or mass communication.

Award Amount: $2000, for up to 4 years

General Scholarships

SC Association of Educational Office Professionals Student Scholarship

Applications must be planning to attend an accredited institution of higher education in the fall. Judging criteria: 50% is need for assistance, 25 % scholastic achievement (see application for remaining criteria). Student must write an essay on “What career have you chosen to pursue and why?”

Award Amount: $1500

Deadline: December 1st

The Voices of Democracy Essay Contest sponsored by VFW Post 10624 of Mt. Pleasant:

Criteria: Student must submit an essay on “American History: Our Hope for the Future”

Award Amount: State winner receives $5000 plus a trip to Washington DC. The national winner earns a $30,000 scholarship.

Deadline: October 31st, 2017

The Young American Patriotic Art Contest sponsored by the VFS Post 10624 of Mt. Pleasant:

Criteria: Eligible for grades 9-12. Art entries will be judges on presentation of patriotic concept as well as other factors.

Deadline: March 31st, 2018

Award Amount: National winners scholarships range  from $500 to $10,000 Young American Patriotic Art Contest Information and Application.


Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program:

Criteria: High School Seniors who plan to attend a 4 year college, vocational or technical school who have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Student should be able to demonstrate leadership abilities and their commitment to service. Wando can nominate one student to apply.

Deadline: October 31st, 2017. Student must turn in the nomination form to the Wando School Counseling Department by October 31st, 2017. Please go to the following link for the nomination form: 2017-18 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Nomination Form

Award Amount: More than 1000 Scholarships are awarded by Comcast.

National Technical Honors Society:

Several Scholarships are available with various criteria and deadlines. Please visit, The National Technical Honors Society website for more information. Applications must be a member of Wando’s National Technical Honors Society. Additional member in DECA, HOSA, etc...maybe required depending on the scholarship criteria.

In 2017-2018, NTHS will award over a quarter of a million dollars through these exclusive scholarship opportunities. Over the years, NTHS has awarded over $1.4 million to deserving NTHS members!It is our belief that CTE students must be supported and encouraged to seek higher education in today’s highly competitive global community. Aware of the increasing costs to attend post-secondary schools, NTHS is dedicated to providing scholarships to career and technical education students who choose a skilled trade as their career.


Dial My Calls Essay Contest:

Diam My Calls is  a mass notification system company which offers scholarship money to high school students.

Deadline: November 8th, 2017

Award Amount:Two winners will be selected,first place will win $1500.00 and second place will win $500.00 - winners are selected by our DialMyCalls.com staff. Winners will be notified within 14 days after the contest ends via email.

College Success Scholarship for 2018 from Study.com  Study.com, our mission is to make education accessible. Our College Success Scholarship gives one lucky student $1,000 to help with their tuition.
