Anderson, Jessica

jaMy name is Jessica Anderson and I can’t believe this is already my 5th year at Wando! This will be my 15th year teaching high school science and I've taught in Florida, Virginia and South Carolina. I am excited to be teaching both CP and Honors Marine Science this year and to inspire my students to love and appreciate the ocean as much as I do. I am an alumni of Coastal Carolina University where I earned a BS in Marine Science and a minor in Biology. In 2014 I earned my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration on teaching science. I am also an alumni of the Walt Disney World Advanced Intern program, which I participated in the year after graduating from CCU. During my time at Disney I helped rehabilitate injured manatees so that they could be released back into the wild, and I also worked on the the dolphin training team. The training we did was largely research based as opposed to training for public entertainment purposes, and the research was focused on the dolphins’ ability to learn tasks like recognizing and matching objects and shapes. Dolphins were also trained in husbandry behaviors which allowed veterinarians to care for our animals in the best and safest way possible. I loved that job and am thankful for the experience, but I’ve found my true passion in being an educator.
