Student Opportunities

The Charleston Trident Urban League's 
Youth Leadership Development Institute (YLDI)

The CTUL’s YLDI program is designed to provide academic enrichment and civic engagement tools to foster youth in the Charleston MSA so that every young person has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.


Every year, the program enrolls students, ages 14-19, generally high school students who are in foster care or receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) from the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS). Participants from Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley counties are provided job shadowing, employment, tutoring and mentoring opportunities through YLDI.


YLDI offers foster care and other underserved youths the opportunity to participate in activities aimed at leadership development, career exposure, educational enrichment and college preparation in order to prepare them for the future.


Student Benefits:

  • Free monthly workshops (students receive a $10 stipend for each class)
