Community or Civic Organization Scholarships


Minority Scholarships


  • Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

Criteria: Minority student who plans to attend a 4 yr college/university that demonstrates leadership and community services. Student must also provide evidence of financial need.

Minimum SAT of 1000 (reading + math) or 21 ACT.

Deadline: February 15th, 2017

Award Amount: up to $28,000 for four years

Description: The Jackie Robinson Foundation was created to perpetuate the legacy of Jackie Robinson and his achievements. The Scholarship enables minority student how have financial need greater access to college through financial support.

  • ExxonMobile Bernard Harris Math & Science Scholarship

Criteria: The scholarship is awarded to an African American or Hispanic student who demonstrates, academic achievement, leadership and community service in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and the applicant’s commitment to pursue a career in a STEM field. Minimum 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale is required.

Deadline: April 10th, 2017

Award Amount: Four, $5000 scholarships will be awarded, two male and two female.

  • Reverend Pinckney Scholars Program through the Coast Community Foundation

Criteria: African American seniors who resided in the either Berkeley, Charleston or Jasper county, who plan to attend a 2 yr or 4 yr college/university. Other criteria included but are not limited to, financial need, academic performance, leadership potential as well as character and aspirations fitting to Rev. Pinckney’s legacy.

Award Amount: up to $10, 000 per year (renewable based on certain criteria

Deadline: March 17, 2017 ***ALL materials must be submitted by March 17th,  including transcript and letters of recommendation. Therefore, students MUST ask recommenders and request of transcript submissions WELL before the March 17th deadline.***

All applications requirements, including recommendations, transcripts, ect...must be submitted electronically. Recommenders and transcript request will be sent electronically to the person(s) you indicated on your applications.

  • National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Charleston Professional Charter

Criteria: African American high school school senior pursuing (and accepted) in an undergraduate degree in the STEM field. Minimum GPA 2.75 (on 4.0 scale) or a 3.4375 (on the 5.0 scale).

Deadline: March 31, 2017

Award Amount: Minimum $500

General Scholarships


  • Rotary Club of Mt. Pleasant’s Alan Hamilton Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Resident of East Cooper and US citizen who plans to attend a 4 year college/university who has a minimum 3.0 GPA on the 4.0 scale. Preference is given to a student(s) who plans to attend a SC college/university but is not an absolute factor.  

Deadline: April 16th. Application must be emailed to mtpleasantrotary@gmail.com

Award Amount: 2 Scholarships will be award. One is renewal for a total of $9000, $1500-1st yr, $2000-2nd yr, $2500-3rd yr and $3000-4th year (GPA criteria in college applies). A second  $1000 Scholarship will be award in Mrs. Lucy Beckham’s name who was a Rotary member.

  • SCAEAP Scholarship (South Carolina Association of Extension Administrative Professionals)

Criteria: awarded to SC senior who plans to pursue a career in secretarial science, computer science or business management and have a “B” average.

Deadline: March 24th, 2017

Award Amount: $1000

Application can be picked up from the Wando School Counseling office or click the following link.

  • Wando High School PTSO Scholarship

Criteria: Current Wando senior who has been accepted or enrolled in college or postsecondary institution at the time of application.

Deadline: April 19th. Applications must be submitted to Mrs. Boeschen in the Wando School Counseling office .

Award Amount: 3-$2000 scholarships will be awarded

  • Women's’ Club of Charleston Scholarship

Criteria: Female student planning to attend a SC 4 yr college in the Fall. Minimum GPA of a 2.5.

Deadline: March 31st, 2017

Award Amount: $1500

Application is two pages plus a guideline, please make sure to click on all of the following links: Women's Club Scholarship page 1, Women's Club Scholarship page 2 and Scholarship Guidelines

  • Accelerate Greater Charleston Scholarship for Trident Technical College

Criteria: Student who plans to attend Trident Tech. in the Fall of 2017 who has a GPA between 2.0-2.9 and has taken a sequence of  “Career Education” courses in high school. Student must be nominated by Wando and show proof of FAFSA submission (an email confirmation will suffice). Please see or email Ms. Stille, Wando School Counselor, by March 29th, 2017. Deadline: March 29th

Award Amount: TTC tuition, books and supplies for two years


  • North Charleston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

Criteria: Graduating senior female who resides in North Charleston or a NCAC Cotillion Ette, minimum 2.5 GPA

Deadline: April 15th, 2017

NC Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship Application


  • SCADA Automotive Excellence Scholarship

Criteria: SC resident planning to enroll in a Automotive Technology degree program in SC OR qualifying out of state college.

Deadline: April 28th, 2017

Award Amount: up to $5000

Description: The South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association will award this scholarship. Preference will be given to applicants who show an interest and desire to work for a SC Dealership upon completion of their degree.

  • SACAC (Southern Association for College Admissions Counseling) Extending the Dream Scholarships

Criteria: Senior who plans to attend a two or four year college, who demonstrates community service, is involved in social justice issues or leadership qualities, has a minimum 2.75 GPA and who shows financial need.

Deadline: April 15, 2017

Award Amount: 10 - $1000 scholarships will be awarded

  • Bobby Chapman Junior Golf Scholarship

Criteria: Students DO NOT have to be a golfer to apply but must have a minimum 3.0 on the 4.0 scale, show leadership capacity and academic promise and plan to attend a 4 year college. Wando can submit two applicants.

Deadline: Applications must be submitted by February 22nd to the Wando Guidance Office.  

Award Amount: $1500 which is renewable for four years

  • Shire 2017 ADHD Scholarship Program

Criteria: Eligible student must have a diagnosis and be under the care of a licensed profession for ADHD. Student must be planning to attend a two year or four year college.

Award Amount: 50, $2000 scholarships plus upto one year of academic coaching

Deadline: March 8th.

  • 2017 Lowcountry Chapter AFCEA Scholarship (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association)

Criteria: Graduating seniors who will attend a 4 year accredited university/college who plan to major in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math.

Award Amount: 10 to 15, $3000 scholarships will be awarded

Deadline: March 17th, 2017

  • Sinclair L. Joe Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Students, or a parent/sibling, show have been diagnosis of a debilitating illness, who show financial need. Students must have a minimum 3.0 on the 4.0 scale and plan to attend a 2 year or 4 year college.

Award Amount: $500 plus a laptop computer

  • South Carolina Council on the Holocaust

Criteria: High School senior planning to attend a two year or four year college/university in the Fall.

Deadline: April 1st, 2017

Award Amount: $1000

Students will complete an application and write a 750-1500 essay on the “importance and relevance of Holocaust education in SC today”. See application for more specific details.

  • Joye in the Community 2017 Scholarship (Joye Law Firm)

Criteria: Graduating senior planning to attend a four year college/university. Students will submit “a creative entry that warns of dangers of drunk driving and/or distracted driving.” Entries can include but are not limited to, essay, poem, video, poster, painting, audio recording, web page, etc… See application for specific details.

Deadline: April 1, 2017

Award Amount: Six, $2000 dollars scholarships will be awarded

  • Coastal Community Foundation General Scholarship Program (several scholarship can be applied for with this one application)

Criteria: Graduating senior

  • Mark Cobb Memorial/Ron McWhirt Scholarship

Criteria: Graduating senior whose parent/guardian is a full time employee of CCSD

Deadline: March 20th, 2017

Award Amount: $2500

Application can be pick up at the Guidance office or by clicking the following link. Mark Cobb Memorial/Ron McWhirt Scholarship (only CCSD student/employee google email accounts can access the google drive)


  • South Carolina Education Association (Retired) Scholarship

Criteria: Student who plan to major in education and attend a SC 4 year college/university, demonstrate leadership, financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Deadline: March 15th, 2017

Award Amount: $1000 renewable

Description: a short essay (250-300 words) on “My Choice of Teaching as a Profession”, transcript, test scores, recommendation, and confidential financial statement must be included.

Applications must be picked up in the School Counseling office.

  • Pain Specialist of Charleston “Giving Back” Scholarship

Criteria: Graduating senior planning to attend a 4 yr college/university who has a history of volunteering.

Deadline: April 7th, 2017

Award Amount: $5000

  • S.C. Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities- Journalism Scholarship

Criteria: Must be a S.C. resident aged 16-19 and a senior in high school. You do not have to have a disability.

Deadline: February 1, 2017

Scholarship Amount: The winner will receive a 4 year scholarship to the S.C. state-supported institution of his or her choice.

Description: Applicants must write a 3 page article on the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. Complete rules and eligibility requirements may be viewed at journalism.scvrd.net .



  • The Exchange Club of Charleston: Youth of the Year

Criteria: Graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding scholastic achievement, as well as leadership and citizenship. Three students will be selected from all Wando applicants and be sent to The Exchange Club of Charleston to be considered for the Exchange Club’s district selection and potentially for National selection.

Deadline: All applications must be turned into the Wando Guidance Office by February 21st.

Award Amount: varies depending on if the student is selected for the district and/or national level

Applications can be pick up in the Wando Guidance office.


  • The Exchange Club of Charleston: A.C.E. Award (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence)

Criteria: Students should have overcome some adversity. A partial list of difficulties to overcome include physical, language, child abuse, delinquency or substance abuse. Three students will be selected from all Wando applicants and be sent to The Exchange Club of Charleston to be considered for the Exchange Club’s district selection and potentially for National selection.

Deadline: All applications must be turned into the Wando Guidance Office by February 21st.

Award Amount: varies depending on if the student is selected for the district and/or national level

Applications can be pick up in the Wando Guidance office.


  • The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Charleston Post Scholarship

Criteria: High School senior attending a US college/university or Trident Technical College, minimum unweighted 3.0 and studying engineering, architecture, science, math or a related field.

Deadline: April 1st, 2017

Award Amount: several $1000 scholarships awarded

  • Mt Pleasant Artist Guild

Criteria: East Cooper high school senior who plan to attend a 4 year college/university.  Student will submit a written application and if selected, submit their portfolio for review. Applicants, nor immediate family can not be Mt. Pleasant Art Guild members

Deadline: March 20th for written application, Portfolio review, April 8th

Award Amount: $1500

Description: Written applications require students to submit art teachers signature, and submit an essay up to 300 words (see application for essay topic). Eligible students when then be asked to submit their art profolio for review to the Artist Guild.

  • Lighthouse Guild Vision+Hearing Scholarship:

Criteria: Eligible students must have proof of legal blindness and a US citizen.

Deadline: March 31st

Award Amount: up to $10,000

  • Money Rock’s Scholarship

Criteria: Graduating senior who resides in Charleston, Dorchester or Berkeley county planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college/university. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need, and the student’s community service record.

Deadline: February 16, 2017

  • SC Federal Credit Union Scholarship:

Criteria: members of South Carolina Federal in good standing OR U.S. residents who are eligible to apply for membership at South Carolina Federal at time of scholarship application, student who plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college/university, and

students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and in good standing with current school

Deadline: February 28th, 2017

Award Amount: 3 scholarships worth, $4000, $2,500 or $1000

  • Charleston Women in International Trade Student Scholarship

Criteria: Male or female student interesting in a career in international trade or a related course of study. US Citizen. Attend a SC college or university.

  • SC Association of Counties (SCAC) Presidential Scholarship

Criteria: High School senior who is a Charleston County resident and plans to attend a SC college, university or two year technical college.

Deadline: February 1st, 2017

Award Amount: $2,500

Description: Since Charleston County Clerk of Court Julie J Armstrong is the current President of SCAC, therefore, this year’s scholarship will be awarded to a student who resides in Charleston County.

  • Peck Law Firm 2017 Scholarship Essay Contest

Criteria: Minimum 3.0 GPA and a US Citizen

Deadline: May 31st, 2017

Award Amount: $2000

Description: Students should submit an application and a 1000 word or less essay on “What effects will the election of our new president have on American Families?”

  • Dr. Kevin Hogan Health Scholarship

Criteria: Wando High School Senior interested in pursuing career in the health field (does not have to be dentistry), minimum GPA 3.2

Deadline: March 31st, 2017

Scholarship Amount: $1000

  • Charleston Alumni Chapter:South Carolina State University

Criteria: Graduating senior who plans to attend SC State in the Fall of 2017. Application, two letters of recommendation, essay (100 to 300 words) (see application for all details).

Deadline: March 31st, 2017

Award Amount: $1000 (renewable based on academic standing in college)

  • South Carolina State University National Alumni Association Scholarship

Criteria: Graduating senior who plans to attend SC State in the Fall of 2017. Scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and/or financial need.

Deadline: March 31st, 2017

Award Amount: $1000 (possibly renewable for four years)

  • Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

Deadline: February 29th, 2016

Scholarship Amount: 50 scholarships up to $25,000 each year

Description: Graduating seniors who plan to major in engineering, technology or design with an interested in the automotive industry.
