At twenty-one, Patrick Martin began teaching English at a junior boarding school in rural New England where he served as a coach and dorm parent for fifth graders. After this, he returned to his alma mater, Christchurch School, a boarding high school on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. He has spent the last ten years teaching English to students ranging from seventh grade to college in Charleston. He earned his BA in English from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia (one of the last three all male colleges in the country) and his MA in English from Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English in Vermont. He is a proud member of the Low Country Writing Project, has presented at the NCTE, and enjoys painting and writing poetry.
