Caston, Phillip

Phillip Caston is in his tenth year of teaching and his third at Wando. He advises the Legend yearbook as well as teaching English 2H and Journalism. Caston has a bachelor's degree in English from Clemson University and a master's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. He currently serves as coastal representative of the S.C. Scholastic Press Association executive board and also serves on the Southern Interscholastic Press Association executive board.

Courses Taught


The yearbook course produces the Legend. Students learn elements of design, photography, journalistic writing, and financial business management.

English 2 Honors

English 2 Honors explores World Literature. Students read a variety of texts from various periods and locales across the globe while honing on their writing, oral presentation, and research skills.

Journalism I

Students learn all facets of journalism in the fields of reporting, bias, interviewing, editorial writing, media history, ethics, and law. The class serves as a feeder into the yearbook, newspaper, and broadcast programs.
