Welcome! It is both with excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the business education classes of Exploring Computer Science & Virtual Enterprise! I am thrilled to be part of the Wando High School family as we strive for academic excellence and assist students in setting the foundations for their future.
I come to Wando High from the business sector and bring both personal and professional experience to assist students in achieving academic excellence as they set the foundations for their future. My years of experience in the service industry – both retail and restaurant management, will afford the opportunity to prepare students for life beyond middle and high school as forward thinking will be encouraged towards a career focused future.
I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to serve the students and families of the Mount Pleasant community as I continue my career in education.  I am exceptionally passionate about career and technology education and firmly believe while core content and academics are undoubtedly the most important aspect of the school curricula, too are the courses of career and technology education. It is my belief that our students must leave our well-structured environment each day and go out into the community prepared, proud, and understanding of the importance of being a valued member of this community. My goal, first and foremost, is to ensure that each student recognizes his or her own individual importance as well as the importance of giving back.
About Mr. Hartley: I was born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana.  I moved to South Carolina seven years ago and have found my permanent home.  While in South Carolina I continued my coursework to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration while working in retail and restaurant management. I love everything about living on the coastal region of South Carolina.  In my spare time I find myself on the beach, in the ocean or on a boat. Most importantly I love being a father to my one year old son Elijah.
I welcome both students and their parents to email me, call me, or come by anytime. I look forward to working with you all and to having a wonderful school year!

Mr. Hartley

Courses Taught

Virtual Enterprise

VE replicates all the functions of real businesses in both structure and practice. Under the guidance of a teacher-facilitator and business mentors, students create and manage their virtual businesses from product development, production and distribution to marketing, sales, human resources, accounting/finance and web design. VE firms offer diverse products and services—from banking, insurance, and technology to publishing, advertising, app creation, tourism, and fashion.

Students select to work in different departments of their businesses, typically Administration, Accounting/Finance, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources and IT. The class selects a CEO and managers who oversee each department. Working in teams to make decisions about how to complete their departmental tasks in support of company goals and objectives, students learn from both their successes and mistakes.
